A dear friend, after reading my post on my collecting books could not resist the temptation to send me this message.

“Confucius say….

If you can’t find the book you want You’re probably shopping at the
wrong shop.”

To illustrate, I was also sent this photograph along with the message.
bookstore

I am now determined to find where exactly this book store is located and visit it.

Looney, do you think that it is somewhere in your neighborhood facing closure as many Chinese eateries there seem to be doing?

With a bookstore name like that, I wonder what is “really available” in that store. A lot of “how to” books?

    Let us do some research!

Don’t have any idea where that store is.

My Elly will want to know where it is too.

Rummuser, I haven’t seen it but we can narrow the search considerably. Most of the closing Chinese shops around here are Mandarin speakers, but the shop is Cantonese. The last few characters of their sign indicate they are selling high school text books. My guess is the shop is in Hong Kong given the lack of an American address. After a little more search:

    Enjoy!

Looney, that link didn’t work for me.

I double checked and it still works. Maybe Chinese characters don’t work on your browser?

Also, y’all might like to know that Wong Fook Hing is almost certainly the shop owners name. Wong is a common family name, while Fook Hing is a given name meaning something like “prosperous recovery”.

I copied and pasted, and it opened for me. Thank you.

    My pleasure.

Wow Looney, you know Chinese too! You amaze me. No wonder that I instinctively added you to my list of heroes.

I was tempted to comment earlier on your weak kneed westerners post. When I was in college studying engineering, I took a few years of Chinese classes. My mother-in-law lived with us a few years and this reinforced things since she doesn’t know any English. There are too many western males with wobbly knees who are good at Platonic relationships as long as they can’t communicate!

Looney, you keep going up in my esteem by leaps and bounds, as you quietly keep letting new information leak out about you.
