Heaven!

by Rummuser

“Let us imagine a crossroads with one sign on the right pointing “To Heaven” and another on the left pointing to “Lectures On Heaven”. The Easterner would turn right and go straight to Heaven, when the Westerner would turn left and attend the lectures.”
- Amaury de Riencourt.

“It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from you, not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell.”
- Gautama The Buddha.

This post is the Loose Consortium Bloggers’ Friday post when Ashok, Conrad, Grannymar, Magpie11, Marianna, Maria, Gaelikaa, Helen, Judy , and I write one post each on the same topic. Please visit the other blogs too to have different views on this fascinating subject.

  1. That sounds like a heavenly day!

    Every day!

  2. Thanks for the post Romana, but I couldn’t interpret “thathaasthu”. Am I missing something? I agree with grannymar, it sounds like a “heavenly day”.

    Rummuser (1423 comments.) Reply:

Thathaasthu in Sanskrit simply means, So Be It.

  3. “It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from you, not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell.”
    - Gautama The Buddha

I had never heard this quote before nor have I ever read anything that had a more immediate meaning for my life and my struggles. I have printed it out and put it on my mirror, where I will see it each morning.

    Thank you.

One of my favourite quotes too. Quite a man he was wasn’t he?

  4. Ramanaji! Kyaa baat hai?

    Shukriyah Gaelikaa Bahen.

  5. I too will use the quotation…and disseminate it! Thank you.

The last cartoon reminded me of the following puzzle:
Two owls, a lady owl and a man owl, were sitting on a branch one rainy night. Was it too wet to woo?

    Rummuser (1423 comments.) Reply:

I shall leave the answer to wise old owls!

  6. Your tea table looks luscious. I do so enjoy tea.

I also love the quote by Gautama The Buddha. Very wise.

    Thank you.

  7. Yes! Reading in bed…that is one of my great pleasures, too.

We were on the same wave length for this one, Ramana.

    Rummuser (1423 comments.) Reply:

    In total agreement.

  8. Ah… I am going to become an Indian … sigh.

    Rummuser (1423 comments.) Reply:

    Good thinking!

  9. It’s my bedtime & reading pictures instead of words is just my speed right now.
Your light dinner is exactly the type we Americans need to eat. Fruits & vegetables. Not meat & potatoes with gravy.

I have tried to be as brief in my writings too BHB!

  10. This is the kind of post I love the most. It tells me more about you. :)

I too love the little pleasures in life.

    Rummuser (1423 comments.) Reply:

Thank you Jean. Very kind words.

  11. Ramana, I am intrigued by your quote: Easterners turn right, Westerners turn left and attend the lecture. As sweeping assessments go it’s a grand one.

Leaving geography aside: Wouldn’t you prefer to make an informed choice?

    U

    Rummuser (1423 comments.) Reply:

The informed choice is Heaven! Not theory about it.

  12. Hi Ramana, This does indeed look like heaven and a perfect life. I hope to be able to live like this someday too!

    Rummuser (1423 comments.) Reply:

You will, you will. I shall be close by to enthuse you too!

As I’m currently jobless, that’s very much my sort of day as well. I assume Heaven will just be a seamless transition from where I am now. But are there blogging facilities in the World Beyond?

    Rummuser (1423 comments.) Reply:

You bet they would. Otherwise, what would they deny in the other place?
