An amazing piece of writing by a Pakistani journalist and it is worth spending time on the comments to understand Pakistan today.

A complex situation indeed. What can anyone say?

What a mess and the guys who are likely to pay the price when it all explodes will be the Indian Muslims. Why? India will be faced with a refugee problem from Pakistan and the incoming ones and their sympathizers from here will both face hostility and mayhem.

It was actually a good article and a lot of the comments seem to suggest that at least some in Pakistan are beginning to face up to the destruction that religious fundamentalism is wreaking n their country. It’s a terrible situation in Pakistan of course with the recent bombings but maybe this will wake them up from lazily blaming the US, the west and India for all their ills. There are elements of Islam that are rotten to the core and it’s only when Muslims themselves have the honesty to confront this that any progress will happen. Lets hope they do this before Pakistan self destructs completely.

Ramana, a couple of weeks ago I came across an article the intro to which just about sums it up. Headed “STATE OF IGNORANCE” and I quote: “Judged even by the lowest standards, education in Pakistan is in chaos, leaving the way open for extremism. David Blair [the journalist] visits schools in a nation where far more is spent on bullets than on books.” Those few words alone give me goose pimples.
