To Shave Or Not To Shave.
By Rummuser. Filed in Humor |Tags: Beards, Clean Shave, Women prefer clean shaven men
Grannymar in her inimitable style threw a challenge at men with beards in her post ‘Attention Toyboys!”
Yesterday, I had commented on her blog that I keep a beard as did Magpie 11.
Call it coincidence or whatever, this morning’s local news papers carried a fascinating article “Indian Women Prefer Shaven Men.”
The first comment from Delirious prompts me to insert my photograph here which is already floating around the web anyway.
I am now tempted to take my beard off and be clean shaven. What do you think?

I do prefer most men shaved, but there are some men that a beard suits. Post an upclose picture of your face so I can decide.
One reason I like my husband clean shaven is because I hate kissing spiky hair. lol I do think that facial hair tends to age a person; that’s a pretty universal opinion of stylists. Also, my husband has heavy eyebrows, so when he grows facial hair, he tends to look sinister. lol My question for you is, do men care if women shave their legs?

I included my photograph after your comment came in. As for your question on women shaving their leg hair, I shall answer in another post.

Not to shave. Facial hair is the most defining masculine trait. A woman can be tall, have broad shoulders, & a flat chest & still look sexy. But she better not have a beard.

Thank you BHB. I am tall, have broad shoulders but alas not a flat chest and more importantly I have a paunch! No woman should look like me!

How long have you had the beard? Would you recognise yourself without it, or would you see one of your brothers in a mirror?

My answer will be through another blog post.

Ramana, the shape of your beard is quite similar to Guy Fawkes.

Good, very good. I am very happy. I would rather be Guy Fawkes look alike than Osama bin Laden look alike.

Well, there’s no harm in experimenting with your look. And you can always regrow your beard. Personally, I think you look very good. Just do what you feel like doing Ramanaji. Either way, no harm done.

As I said to Grannymar, I have a strong aversion to facial hair, and I only had a beard for a year or two in the sixties, but what you choose to do is your own affair! My feeling is that if men expect women to remove all their body hair, why shouldn’t women expect the same of men – except that for some inexplicable reason a lot of women love their men to be as hairy as possible.

Indian women have expressed their opinions on that survey. I am waiting for someone to interview about my preference on women’s hair!

Hold your shaven horses, Nick! Unwittingly you have nailed your testosterone laden chest on the head (yes, I know it’s a mixed metaphor). That’s the beauty of having two sexes: One is expected to be a peach (though God clearly was a little absent minded when he created Eve – still, it keeps hot wax manufacturers and beauticians in business), the other to be a MAN. It’s what I call the “Me Tarzan, You Jane” effect.
Unlike Bike Hike Babe, facial hair does not make a man for me. I can take it or leave it on that part of the body. But hair SOMEWHERE on the body does make a difference. If I don’t want a bit of wilderness on a chest or a leg of a man I meet up with the gay guys in my circle and, of course, they are beautifully turned out, smell gorgeous, have soft skin like a baby’s bottom and, as a bonus, you can take them clothes shopping without a murmour of discontent. But, on the whole, you don’t bed them.
Ramana, back to YOUR beard. As your fashion adviser: Keep it. As always (see above) the secret is in the grooming. And yours is beautiful – perfect in proportion to the shape of your head and the hair on top. And white – or that salt and pepper effect – adds gravitas to a man of a certain age. Admittedly I can’t get used to my father’s sudden penchant for a beard worthy of a big ship’s captain but that’s probably because I never knew him other than clean shaven. As long as my mother is happy.
On a sentimental note: Whether now bearded or not, all you guys out there will remember the time when you were a young man – and as a rite of passage – eagerly waited for something to sprout on your chin to proudly shave it off.
Can’t wait till Conrad throws his own facial trimmings into the discussion. Leaving aside that he has an eery resemblance to one of my uncles (and godfather) he is another fine example of a man who a beard clearly suits.

As we all know, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. There are as many opinions as people. Isn’t it wonderful?

Yes, and thank God for that. Otherwise we will all look exactly the same.

I’d prefer clean shaven or a slight stubble. A slight stubble suits most faces. But a full grown beard is very uninviting to kiss through… So yes, if kisses are what you are looking to get, shave….

Sarika, what a surprise visit and comment. I shall give serious consideration to your point of view and then decide. Watch out for a new post.

I think the beard suits you well, so keep it! A beard wouldn’t work as well for me; that plus my face gets really sensitive, so even when I’ve tried, it starts getting really irritated quickly. But on you,l it works great.

Thank you Mitch. I have not yet decided but when I do, I shall write a special post about the decision and the logic for it. Till then, I am keeping it! I really cannot afford the razor blades!

Dashing? At my age, I keep dashing into the furniture. That is all that I am capable of dashing into!
