In my Intentions-2012 post I had written about getting out of the house more than I did last year.
Yesterday, I went out to check out a new restaurant that has opened near our home and I had a bit of adventure there about which you will read in my Weekly Gratitude List come this Saturday.

Today, I went to a multiplex to see a movie which has received great reviews. I preceded the movie with a visit to Cafe Coffee Day, which is the Indian equivalent of the American Starbucks. I had absolutely mind blowing cappuccino and traipsed across to the multiplex to see “The Descendants” starring George Clooney.
And, as icing on the cake, I had the delightful company of Mitali who is no stranger to my readers.
I saw a movie after almost ten years and it was a great rediscovery of going to the movies. For those who have not seen the movie, I strongly recommend “The Descendants”. It is a family drama and the cast without exception perform brilliantly, taking an ordinary story to great heights.
Now that I have discovered the joy of modern movie going experience, I intend viewing many more in the days to come.

I used to go to the movies every week until circumstances prohibited such. Now I content myself with a decent home theater system with a moderately sized LCD HDTV. Not the same as the movies though – no popcorn smells – but a large Coke Zero is much cheaper.
I must check out the listings to see where I can catch that film.

I haven’t been to a movie in a loooooong time! I do have some prepaid tickets that I bought at a discount, I just need to find a film we want to watch. Perhaps we will check out this one you mentioned.

Hi Ramana: Glad you enjoyed the experience at the sophisticated coffee shop. My heart however yearns to stop at the old fashioned tea stalls from back in the day! I dont know if they even have them anymore.
Films are too expensive these days and the cinemas are full of popcorn crackling yobs……
Hi Rummy,
I admit I detest the movie theatre: it’s claustrophobic. I prefer to sit comfortably at home, with my peeps, and watch movies on VOD – it is so much funnier.
Now, that cappuccino raised my interest: gosh, if you only knew how much I adore cappuccinos…ok, I love coffee, period.
The Descendants seems an interesting movie, will be watching it soon. But the one that really caught my attention is “The Artist” – can’t wait to watch it.
I am glad you are out having fun, my friend: you sure deserve it!
Cheers
By a strange coincidence, I saw the same film yesterday. It’s well worth seeing, but I don’t rate Clooney as an actor, he strikes me as rather wooden and unexpressive. He trades heavily on his physical charms. I thought the best acting by far was from Shailene Woodley as Alexandra. But the film is an excellent study of how people adapt to sudden disasters and adverse circumstances, and find inner resources they didn’t think they had.

But still nothing like going to the cinemas! Well done Raj, what did you see? Both Thiru & I are regulars @ the the movies! Haven’t stopped since Secunderabad days!
Usha, please click on the link given for rummuser and you will read my full blog post and also get introduced to my blog!
David, apparently, the theaters make more money selling pop corn and coffee than they do exhibiting movies!
I plan to see it too, maybe tonite???? Will put on my best smile when Thiru gets home from work!!!!

I hope that you did and enjoyed it as much as I did.
I started back at the movies as well this year but when to more child-like ones because I wanted something light…
Before I went to the second one, a friend said “you must get popcorn” but my friend was paying and all he did was did the miserly little one! I wanted the super-pottle…next time he can he is own and I will get the supersized one
It was fun seeing movies on a wide screen, mid-week less people…but still great. Not sure if I will do many others though…

Welcome to the club Cathy. I intend going to lots more henceforth. India produces a lot of films and I can see one a week without having to see one again.
Good! I’m so happy for you.

I am very happy too and I intend doing more of the same.
Delightful news sir. You should extend the scope of your visit to Bangalore next time. There will be two people who would love to catch up over some coffee and biscuits [as opposed to cookies

Yes, I do look forward to that soon. I have a lot of work pending in Bengaluru and must make it as soon as possible. Incidentally, you are young enough to adapt to change. Why are you not being a Kannadiga?
“the joy of modern movie going experience” … What with all that slurping, munching and chatting going on ? Oh ! ..and mobile phones ringing ! Sorry Ramana, I would sooner stay at home and watch TV, even if I do have to listen to ‘she who must be obeyed’.

Mid week visits to these behemoths means that the theaters are mostly empty. I had no problem with neighbours!
I almost passed out from not breathing; you went to a movie? Did you alert the media that you were going? I’m happy you went, happy you enjoyed it, and happy that you’re considering going to another one. lol

Mitch, Stop laughing. May be it is a sign of my approaching senility!
The Descendants was a surprisingly warm, entertaining and thoughtful film for me. It deals specifically with a family going through a specific tragedy and dealing with that tragedy and all the secrets they never knew existed. We can see the weight of the world on George Clooney’s shoulders as he descends deeper and deeper into misery.
What made this movie so good for me was the complexity of Clooney’s character and the depth he went to in order to deal with a big family secret, an estranged daughter, a curious daughter and a dying wife. It felt real and heartwarming to see his friends and a new real estate agent and his wife literally turn his world upside down! Try keeping a dry eye during this film. Real-life drama and passion. I can see why it’s winning all the awards. A very well made film.

That sounds like a fun day! I haven’t been going out much for awhile too but the other day, I visited a friend. It was fun! I will try to watch the movie you recommended..The Descendants.
I agree with you, watching movies is an excellent fun. I regularly watch movies as it make my mind fresh and free from all tension.
