“An optimist stays up to see the New Year . A pessimist waits to make sure the old one leaves.”
~ Bill Vaughn.
In that case, I am constrained to invent a new word – Pessoptimism to describe my present condition.
Because, I stay up for both nowadays. I just have to replace the word Year with Situation. The pessimist in me has to win as a precondition for the optimist in me to come alive.

I go to bed and the world goes on around me!
Hang in there, you are doing fine!

That I am doing. As I write this, there appears to be good news from what I can make out from the test results. I will know for sure later this evening when we meet the nephrologist.
Once a caregiver – always a caregiver. And R – consider this – you have a glass! That is ultimately a positive thing

Indeed it is. And very pissimistic I am too.
Surely a pessimist would want to hang on to the old year because he/she is convinced the new year is going to be much much worse.

I am sure he would, but as with most of us, I think that I am unique!
I like the little fellow on the right. He has taste. He wants quality, not quantity. I bet he’d prefer a mouthful of a fine Chablis over a glass half full/empty of cat’s piss.
Greetings from an optimal pissomistic,

Ah, you caught on! At the end of the day, or shall we say the line, he is a pissimist.
An optimist believes that we live in the best of all possible worlds, a pessimist fears that this is true.

Srinivas, I don’t want to start an argument but surely it should read: ” A pessimist fears that we live in the best of all worlds, whilst the optimist thinks there is an ever better one on the horizon.”

You must be from the US. And why don’t you want to start an argument? Simply to have the last word, having started one! Nice try young lady, but betters have tried and failed.

So you DO want an argument, Srinivas. You can have one as our long suffering and ever so patient Ramana will wearily confirm.
“Better have tried and failed”, you say. Really? Well, you do move in the wrong circles:
In your favour, you have managed to amuse me by stating that I “must be from the US”. That’s a first. I have been put all over the world, I even had a gender change in a fit of mistaken identity.
Pray, enlighten me as to what makes you think I am American.
Ciao,
U

As I write this, another reader has decided to take you on. Battle on young friend.
Fun! …and so true.

I am glad that you enjoyed that little diversion.
Hmmm, now you have me guessing! Why I thought so, straightforward really, you turned a wry witticism into a somewhat insipid inspiration. Such optimism, only from the land of the brave…. or so I thought. But now I know, you are only a program, virtually.
