I dedicate this to a fellow LBC blogger who gave me a panic attack recently!
All wound up on the edge Terrified Sleep disturbed restless mind Petrified
Bouts of fear permeate All I see Heightening nervousness Threatens me
I am paralyzed So afraid to die
Caught off guard warning signs Never show Tension strikes choking me Worries grow
Why do I feel so numb? Is it something to do with where I come from? Should this be fight or flight? I don’t know why I’m constantly so uptight
Rapid heartbeat pounding through my chest Agitated body in distress I feel like I’m in danger Daily life is strangled by my stress
A stifling surge Shooting through all my veins Extreme apprehension Suddenly I’m insane
Lost all hope for redemption A grave situation desperate at best
Why do I feel so numb? Is it something to do with where I come from? Should this be fight or flight? I don’t know why I’m constantly reeling
Helpless hysteria A false sense of urgency Trapped in my phobia Possessed by anxiety
Run Try to hide Overwhelmed By this complex delirium

Run Try to hide Overwhelmed By this complex delirium.
I hope you enjoyed reading this post on the weekly Friday Loose Bloggers Consortium where twelve of us write on the same topic. Today’s topic has been chosen by yours truly. The eleven other bloggers who write regularly are, in alphabetical order, Anu, Delirious, gaelikaa, Grannymar, Maxi, Maria SF, ocdwriter, Padmum, Paul, Shackman, The Old Fossil and Will. Do drop in on their blogs and see what their take is on this week’s topic. Since some of them may post late, do give some allowance for that too!

You Panic? I thought you were so laid back to be horizontal! Hope our friend has come through the glitch!

I saw them live once and watched the players all walk out of the stage bar Joe Morello drumming for five plus minutes. I cannot ever take five without remembering that show.
Panic has to be one of the worst feelings!

Yes, it is. I recently had enough opportunities to see it first hand.
Ramana, I’m surprised that you would even know about this music. Something I WON’T be playing, again. (No offense, meant.)

My taste in music as in reading, is eclectic Marianna. I can’t take too much of this genre either. Once in a way, in a particular frame of mind, I can appreciate it.
That little poem captures very accurately the sheer distress of a serious panic attack. I’m glad I only suffer from mild panic attacks and not more devastating ones.

So do we all Nick. To do so is to be human.
I’ve been there, tried reading your post but couldn’t, deja vue, quite horrible.
I’m sure it’s good.

Yes, it is morbid is it not?
That’s definitively my favorite song from Dream Theater!
I prefer Shackman’s musical choice – I may panic if I have to hear too much more of yours.

Strictly between you and me, so do I,
Whew! That is a heavy load, Rummy. Especially if it is carried day to day.
There is a third word that I add to fight or flight. It is freeze. There are some who become paralyzed when they can’t cope.

Maxi, I know of one case of the Freeze variety who got cured of all forms of panic attacks through therapy. And the therapy was Paradoxical Intention.
i’m with grannymar! you would have been the very last person i’d thought would know how a panic attack felt.
your poem is incredible. the panic actually built as a force. i could feel
it as i read it! amazing rummy. (don’t want to know it too well though)

No, you don’t want to.
The way you describe it, I will seek to avoid it.
