Harold Camping had predicted that Jesus Christ would return to Earth on May 21, 2011, whereupon the righteous would fly up to heaven, and that there would follow five months of fire, brimstone and plagues on Earth, with millions of people dying each day, culminating on October 21, 2011, with the final destruction of the world. He had previously predicted that Judgment Day would occur on or about September 6, 1994.
Camping was reported to have retired from his position at Family Radio as of October 16, 2011, only days before his last predicted date for the end of the world. However, his daughter later clarified that he had not retired outright, but was maintaining a role at Family Radio while working from home. Camping admitted in a private interview that he no longer believed that anybody could know the time of the Rapture or the end of the world, in stark contrast to his previously staunch position on the subject. In March 2012, he stated that his attempt to predict a date was “sinful”, and that his critics had been right in pointing to the words of Matthew 24:36: “of that day and hour knoweth no man”. He added that he was now searching the Bible “even more fervently…not to find dates, but to be more faithful in [his] understanding.”

I hope you enjoyed reading this post on the weekly Friday Loose Bloggers Consortium where thirteen of us write on the same topic. Today’s topic has been chosen by Padmum. The twelve other bloggers who write regularly are, in alphabetical order, Anu, Delirious, gaelikaa, Grannymar, Maxi, Maria SF, ocdwriter, Padmum, Paul, Rohit, Shackman, The Old Fossil and Will. Do drop in on their blogs and see what their take is on this week’s topic. Since some of them may post late, do give some allowance for that too!

“Enjoy” this week’s offering, Ramana? I most certainly do not. Not one bit. Imagine I dropped dead (say, by that often cited by me aneurysm/blood clot) in about sixty seconds: Do you truly think I’d die a happy woman in the knowledge that those words of yours were the last I ever read? No, didn’t think so.
Actually, technically speaking, the last words I will have read are the ones I have just written. I wish I’d written something else.

Not to worry Ursula. You have a long way to go and many more things to read from my blogs before you die. You have my guarantee that when you do, you will die a happy woman.

On one of my sites you wrote the values you admire most are humility, humor and gratitude. So these are values you admire from afar?

I hope that you can see me grinning as I type this CM. Those are values I admire in others! I have no illusions about myself. Let others decide on that.

I wish that the post was due to be written later so that the Mayan forecast could have also been included! http://www.timeanddate.com/calendar/maya-world-end.html
You know how much I love a good old religious nutter Ramana, and this guy is one of the best.

There’s one born every minute, as they say, and Harold Camping certainly has a few loose screws in that apparatus he calls a brain.

I just love me some good rapture fails. Never get bored with them.
And when I think of the awful gaggle of morons and cretins that plan their ascension, I want no part of them.

How about the Mayans? http://www.timeanddate.com/calendar/maya-world-end.html
The biggest problem with Camping who is about 15 miles from my house, is that he had people invest life savings in putting up billboards, etc., to announce the apocalyse. THAT to me was the real sin.

Yes, I had read about those bill boards and I believe that there are still some followers who too are repenting with him!

Unfortunately, they repent from the poor house. Camping, on the other hand, experienced a stroke of some import, so he has not emerged unscathed from the stresses of his miguided efforts.

Looney, I would have normally just spammed the comment from Pauline in my post “Beauty Markets” but have left it there for you to see that I am not without admirers! And what is more, she has just discovered that I am not boring any more. So, who knows, Ursula may just change her mind too!

Looney, get your facts straight. Whilst Ramana and I might have enjoyed/endured a protracted engagement – not helped by the ringbearer or that most malign of future brothers-in-law, Barath, I only converse with those who entertain me (at least mildly). I am perfectly capable of gleening the odd glimmer out of Ramana’s many pearls. If only to make a purse out of a swine’s ear – by way of my dowry (my father being too old now to give me or a cow away).
So, my dear Barnacle, what a fine crew we will make on the ark. It’ll be awful. Who is doing the cooking? Fasten your life belt now. And do not let women, gays and children go first.

U, I was trying to avoid putting facts into my comment, so that I would not need to worry whether they were straight of not.
But you have stimulated my thinking a bit too: I am wondering how women, gays and children all go first a few decades from now when men no longer exist. Note to myself: Be sure to fix onto the hull of Titanic II at a point where I will get a good vantage point to see what happens.

Harold Camping – what an idiot! Maybe not, as the Old Fossil pointed out many fearful people sent him bundles of money. Too many christians, too few Christ-like people

I can relate to that poor sod CM!
I think people need to know these dates for doomsdays and they enjoy these death knells ringing because they are deluded and they need these false hopes to keep their life going. Its like feeding the devil inside of you with just what he needs where people like Campbell come into limelight. its all bogus humdrum that teaches us that the only way to make life matter is to be in the present.
