Mother In Law Problems.

This post cannot wait.

My dear sister is in all kinds of problems due to having been blessed with a termagant for a Mother In Law.

She has written a group mail to me and some of my friends who she knows will be sympathetic to her cause, about her problems. If one reads between the lines, one can see what she really means.

Since her mail is likely to be intercepted, and my blog is perhaps a safer method of giving advise to her, I wish to suggest to her that I come over to her place accompanied by another aficionado Chuck and serenade her mother in law with this song.

(Mother in Law) Mother In Law
(Mother in Law) Mother In Law

The worst person I know
(Mother-in law, mother-in law)
(Mother-in law, mother-in law)
A she worries me, so
If she’d leave us alone
A we would have a happy home
Sent from down below

Mother in Law Mother in Law

Satan should be her name
To me they’re bout the same
Every time I open my mouth
She steps in, tries to put me out
How could she stoop so low

[Instrumental Interlude]

I come home with my pay
She asks me what I made
She thinks her advice is the constitution
But if she would leave that would be the solution
And don’t come back no more

Mother in law
My……mother in law, ah
Oh yeah

I have no doubts whatsoever in my mind that the sight of the two troubadours singing this song should cure the MIL of her maladies’

What say sis?

  1. Not me folks! This is one of RR’s sis-by-adoption….I have no mother-in-law problems. I am the problem for I am the mother-in-law!!

Ramana, you just have added to my vocabulary: Till today I never knew the word ‘termagant’ existed. Indeed that termagants exist. I shall take cover in case one comes my way.

While, no doubt there must be MILs from hell, let us remind us of a few facts – not that I can speak for the Indian tradition of (sometimes) living under the same roof as your mother-in-law. Even Tom cats will defend their territory. By way of example: Stick my sister and me in the same kitchen and the only reason knives aren’t flying is because I defer to her. What she says goes. No skin of my nose despite the fact that I am six years older. Whatever makes her happy. I love her and I know what’s worth fighting for and superiority it isn’t.

I have had two mothers-in-law. The first was a difficult woman but kind. Yes, that summons her up: Difficult but kind. She gave me lots of good advice, yet never once interfered or sneered. The second was sweet and innocent. And she and I were as one in doting on her son – there never was any animosity, just delight that he existed. She had her role in his life, I had mine. And we each respected each other. My Mil and I clearly a match made in in-law-heaven.

One piece of advice for that young lady of yours: Fast forward some twenty/thirty years – let’s hope she’ll remember and consequently make a MIL from heaven.

That young lady is getting well prepared to be totally different when she becomes a MIL. I also foresee that by the time she does, things may be very very different than what they are now.

Omg, I remember when this song came out. It was very popular here in the States. Hope it works.

  4. Bravo! What a great big brother you are. I think you deserve a Super Hero award. How about some superman tights and a red cape.? Maria too deserves a medal for enduring unkindness in her life and not allowing it to overcome her.

Why are there so many complaints about mothers in law, and virtually none about fathers in law? Are mothers in law really that bad, or are people more charitable about a father in law’s failings?

I loved my MIL and my SIL loved me. So glad that such stereotypes don’t exist everywhere.

That song brings back a lot of fond memories of two or three years that my mother-in-law spent with me helping when the kids were just born. She was an amazing help. My wife is anxiously waiting her turn as mother-in-law, but that could still be a few years.

I used to sing that song to my mother in law who very sportingly would allow me to complete it much to the merriment of others listening to it.

I never had a Mother in law, but now I am one. I sign all correspondence to my Son in law as from ‘The mother in law from hell’, so far he tells me that I am far from it.

Do you think if i sent this record to my mother-in-law she would get the message, or will i end up in the dog house…
