“Faith, hope, love, and insight are the highest achievements of human effort.” ~ Carl C Jung

When I attempted to write this post, I ran into a writer’s block and thought it best to look for quotes to inspire me.  The quotes inspired me to cheat as one of my maxims is why reinvent the wheel ?

Faith.

“I have great faith in fools – self-confidence my friends will call it.”
~ Edgar Allan Poe

Hope.

“You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one. I hope someday you’ll join us. And the world will live as one.”
~ John Lennon

Love.

“Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none.”
~ William Shakespeare

Insight.

“The man with insight enough to admit his limitations comes nearest to perfection”~ Johan Wolfgang Von Goethe.

“There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.”~ ~ ~ Paulo Coelho

“What one meets with in life is destiny. How well one meets it is self effort.  ~ Chinmayananda

This week’s 2 on 1 was chosen by me.  When I suggested it, the other participant Shackman was quite enthused to have a go at it as in his words “I am virtually devoid of those so this will be interesting.” As usual, he was being modest.  Please do go and see what he has to say about the topic.

I like it. I just took a more autobiographical approach. The problem with quotes like Jungs is people tend to overthink them IMHO and simply don’t take a realistic approach – I find the supreme arrogance of folks like Jung and Freud irritating more often than interesting. As I say – I am nota particularly deep thinker, especially with stuff like this. I did enjoy the fact that it is most definitely out of my wheelhouse. For once something besides my waistline was stretched.

    • You made the effort and that impresses me. I took the short cut and in retrospect wish that I had taken the same route instead of trying to pontificate on the topic.

eh WOT old bean? you didn’t cheat!
that is the wonderful fun of your Friday take Two’s.
and my intellect runs to quotes from others whom (I used the word WHOM!)
    I admire.
there is a biblical quote I think that says to have “faith hope and love. and the greatest of these is love.” or something like that. I don’t know! but it’s pretty clear.
another I always liked and I have no idea who said it. . .
“you must love that which is unlovable or it is no virtue at all.”
I must go now. before this becomes War and Peace. my comments tend to do that. I will chew on yours and Shack’s posts while I have my breakfast. wait.
while I have my brunch! SH

    • My warring days are long behind me and my pacific days are now pushing me gently to the grand finale! So, don’t go. Comment as much as you want on my blog posts. I can take whatever you can dish out.

I’m with Goethe, be realistic about our strengths and weaknesses. Also know our values and be effective in living them.

    • In this case, I quite realised my limitations and went to get quotations. Having read Shackman’s post however, I regret not having taken the same route. We live and learn.

  4. interesting quotes, some resonate whilst others…I can leave out in the shed…

What a fun idea. Neat quotes, too.

    • A friend has nothing better to do than to send me inspiring quotes every day without fail in my WhatsApp account. On the day that it was my turn to suggest a title, this came and I simply copy pasted it!

I would add a fifth quality – persistence. Without persistence, even modest plans and dreams will never be realised. Someone will give up at the first sign of difficulty instead of finding a way forward.
