Most Overrated Artist (Musician, Actor, Etc.)

I was married to a fairly accomplished artist Urmeela but as much as I tried I could never learn the nuances of art appreciation of any kind. Even in music, I either like or dislike something but if I was asked as to why, I would not be able to answer. People found it strange as Urmeela could paint, play the piano, the guitar, the tabla and was creative in many ways. I would simply say that I married the artist not the art and leave it at that.

So, this topic is a bit of a problem for me as how does one with such limited ability write on it? I have therefore decided to just share a video of a piece of music which apparently was a major hit though I simply could not see why it was so. I leave it to me readers to decide whether my assessment that this artist and the music are highly overrated or not.

This topic was suggested by Shackman for the weekly Friday Loose Bloggers Consortium (LBC) where currently six of us write on the same topic every Friday. I hope that you have enjoyed my contribution to that effort.  The five other bloggers who write regularly are, in alphabetical order,  AshokgaelikaaMaxi, and Shackman and The Old Fossil. Do drop in on their blogs and see what their take is on this week’s topic. Since some of them may post late, or not at all this week, do give some allowance for that too!

I loved Gangnam Style guy’s videos. He was funny & entertaining. 😀

I didn’t like at first. I’m not a fan of electronic dance music. However, after learning more about the satire of the piece, I found humor in it. Funny or not,I still don’t like the electronic music. I played cello for years in grade school, so I tend to favor more complex compositions.

I suppose like most people my age I don’t really appreciate a lot of the ( loud ) modern English pop music , but I quite liked Gangnam .

  4. Not my style, but I’m with you, I’m not a good judge of music or art. I just enjoy the things I like. Ake Axelsson of Pierre Brassau fame is my hero.

    Migraine music!
I like a broad range of music. and it plays a part of each day for me. Lively with a good beat in the morning to wake me up and get me moving. The choice quietens down as the day progresses. If there are lyrics, I want to be able to hear them. Some the modern stuff is machine noises and an insult to real talent, in my book!

Asian music videos are often so OTT that it’s hard to consintrate (?sp) on the actual lyrics and sound… Gangnam just happened I think to be in the right place 🙂

I don’t call this high art, but I do rank it as harmless and fun. When something so silly catches on, it is fun to watch it spread joy among those who practice it. I confess to sometimes wishing I were lighthearted and adept enough to have joined in.
